STAFF ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS & STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES

Throughout the course of the year, the math teachers are constantly attending various workshops and conferences. The knowledge they gain from these opportunities is brought back to the classroom to enhance the students' learning. Here are a few examples of professional development opportunities that the teachers participated in over the summer:

  • Mr. Cedrone was a resident faculty instructor for the Rutgers Young Scholars Program hosted by the Center for Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science (DIMACS) at Rutgers this summer. Following Rutgers, he was invited to be a guest instructor at St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, NJ where he delivered a lesson on fractals, infinity, and order vs. chaos. He has enjoyed working with students in other branches of mathematics and is looking forward to sharing that knowledge with our students here in Hopewell this year.

  • Ms. Kelly attended the annual International Society for Technology Education conference. She learned about coding, Escape Rooms, blended learning and mindfulness (to name a few). Ms. Kelly is eager to implement some of the exciting activities and techniques she learned.

  • Mr. Shrager had a busy summer. He taught a graduate class at Princeton University. He also presented at the Pennsylvania Council for the Teaching of Mathematics with Mr. Tkacs. Their presentation was entitled "Teaching Statistics and US Government: Data Backed Policy Proposals and Election Predictions. Finally, Mr. Shrager contributed to the an article regarding time capsules for CUNY. The article is located here.
